Trading Executive – Food Service Wholesale We need an energetic and talented Trading Executive to join a leading (National) Food Service Wholesaler. They predominantly serve the ‘Out Of Home’ (OOH) Market, having a share of this £40bn sector – so plenty of scope! The Trading Team cover 11 categories with around 6k SKU’s. The objective of the Trading Executive is to have ownership of the full product life cycle within designated categories to achieve range and financial targets while aligning to the business needs and customer demand. Liaise with Marketing to ensure Trading strategy dovetails with Channel and Consumer insight.  
  • Manage Suppliers and Customers:
    • Build and maintain relationships with suppliers and customers to ensure effective communication and collaboration.
    • Negotiate terms, pricing, and contracts with suppliers and internal Sales Teams to optimize value and profitability.
    • Address any issues or concerns raised by suppliers or Sales Team in a timely and professional manner.
  • Category Management:
    • Develop and implement category strategies to drive growth and profitability.
    • Analyse market trends and consumer insights to identify opportunities for product assortment optimization.
    • Monitor category performance and make recommendations for assortment changes and promotional activities.
    • Price management, Range Reviews, Competitor Analysis, Market updates, Commodity Tracking and reporting.
  • Source New Product Lines:
    • Research and identify new product opportunities to enhance the product portfolio.
    • Source new suppliers and products that align with market trends and customer preferences.
    • Evaluate potential suppliers based on quality, cost, and reliability to ensure alignment with company standards.
  • Own the Category:
    • Take ownership of specific product categories and drive initiatives to maximize sales and profitability. In this case more than likely the Ambient Food category.
    • Develop a deep understanding of customer needs and preferences within the category.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to execute category plans and achieve business objectives.
  • Product Life Cycle Management:
    • Manage the entire product life cycle from introduction to discontinuation.
    • Monitor product performance and make recommendations for product improvements or discontinuations.
    • Develop strategies for product launches, promotions, and end-of-life management.
  • Attend Trade Shows and Other Industry Events:
    • Represent the company at trade shows, conferences, and industry events to network with suppliers and customers.
    • Stay informed about industry trends, innovations, and best practices.
    • Identify opportunities for partnerships, collaborations, and business development.
  • Food Safety:
    • Ensure compliance with food safety regulations and standards.
    • Work closely with suppliers to maintain quality and safety standards throughout the supply chain.
    • Implement food safety protocols and procedures to minimize risks and ensure product integrity.
  • Legal Regulation Requirements:
    • Stay up to date with relevant legal regulations and compliance requirements.
    • Ensure that all products and operations adhere to applicable laws and regulations.
    • Collaborate with legal and compliance teams to address any regulatory issues or concerns.
  Key attributes / Experience:                      Ability to work efficiently and manage time productively. Able to prioritise work / goals and meet deadlines. A high level of numercy. An understanding of the key metrics that impact Commercial Revenues. Experience in managing multiple internal and external stakeholders. Experience in delivering presentations. We envisage this role may take up 3 days a week but again this is open for discussion.

"To control the processes that ensures all of the technical requirements of the company are achieved and fully compliant. All activities to be in accordance with the stated Company protocols of Food Safety, GMP and HACCP. In the absence of the post holder, all responsibilities for technical issues, Food Safety, Legality and Quality will be taken up by the Technical Director who will be your Line Manager.

MAIN DUTIES:

•     To ensure that the BRC Manual is complete and fully updated.

•     To lead the HACCP team and ensure compliance

•     To conduct any audits as required including any un-announced customer audits.

•     To conduct weekly GMP audits and report

•     To ensure strict compliance with the company’s food safety and quality operating procedures (QOP) are adhered to.

•     To ensure all regular meetings are minuted and attend where appropriate

•     To check all quality systems and conduct tests as per QMS v9.

•     Check Shelf life tests, analyse and report to Cardiff.

•     Receive quality reports and analyse for trending.

Job purpose:

  • Assess and report on the raw product arriving at goods inward, in production, in shelf life and at the point of dispatch.
  • Communicate quality issues to line management and ensure produce sent to customer complies with the required specification.
  • The job holder is required to make an accurate assessment of product making decisions on whether it is necessary to re-sort the product, reject or ripen if necessary.
  • Refer any major quality issues that require a more experienced view due to the cost of re-sorting or rejected product.

Key accountabilities and decision ownership:

  •  Assess, review and report on the defects of produce to ensure that they comply with customer specifications at all stages of operations.
  • Reporting and communicating any unsatisfactory conditions or quality for potential claims, further inspections and decisions to be made.
  • Carry out destructive testing of product where required to support the QA processes, ensuring that product meets customer specification.
  •  Collect and carry out shelf life testing and report findings via the SAP system.
  • Carry out the necessary equipment and re-calibration checks to ensure that equipment is within specification for use.
  • Using the Quick spec system, collect and check details of label information to ensure compliance throughout the operational processes.
  • Support all customer visits to ensure all internal and external customer relationships are supported in a proactive manner.
  • Ensure all management information and control documentation are maintained, accurate and in accordance with traceability, official standard/requirements and legislation, guarding against rejections and non-compliance.
  • Ensure, through the effective management of physical environment, work practice and team behaviour, the effective implementation of the Company’s Health and Safety Policies.
  • Comply with all relevant Company policies and procedures, including but not limited to Health, Safety & Wellbeing Policy, Equal Opportunities, Diversity & Dignity at Work Policy and Hygiene Policy.
