Quality Controller (Fresh Produce)
Reports to: Technical Manager
Our client is an Importer, Packer and Distributor of Fresh Produce, mainly Top Fruit – they are looking for a Quality Controller to join their team in Kent. Their customers are in both the Non-Retail and Retail sector.
Job Purpose Summary:
To ensure that all fruit is checked on arrival and the accompanying reports regards the fruit condition are complete and accurate prior to being forwarded to the appropriate Procurement, Commercial, Operations, Technical and Quality personnel.
To provide early warnings of problems/potential problems to prevent rejections /interruption to working by completing checks on-line and at the point of out-load ensuring that all fruit supplied meets customer specifications.
Keep the Production and Quality Managers/Supervisors informed of all problems/deviations from specifications, working with them to find solutions.
Continually seek opportunities to enhance product knowledge.
To be responsive and act quickly with constantly changing requirements and demands.
Check all fruit on arrival at our client’s site.
Check paperwork/reports that accompany fruit onto site to ensure that it is complete and accurate.
Visit customer depots/sites as and when required.
Work closely with Quality Manager and the Commercial team to ensure that the fruit is allocated to the appropriate customers.
Complete stock reviews and ensure all information is transferred to the appropriate personnel.
Work closely with Production and Quality Managers/Supervisors in highlighting any deviations from specification.
Highlight that where it is not possible to bring fruit back into specification small amendments to the running of the line need to be made.
Complete daily and weekly audits i.e. store temperatures and calibrations.
Work with the Quality team and others in the continuous monitoring of product quality using established processes and tools.
Attend meetings as required to enable continual up-to-date knowledge and awareness of what is happening and how information impacts on the personnel involved.
Complete shelf life checks and documentation.
Remain up to date and vigilant regards Health & Safety for site, self and others.
Be proactive and assist in the development and portrayal of a strong, cohesive team.
Knowledge & Skill Requirements:
Good fresh fruit product knowledge
Good verbal and written communication skills
Good organisational and planning skills
Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and internal systems
Good educational standard with qualifications/college courses relevant to the industry and job level
Flexibility and initiative
