This is a very exciting role for a Trials Manager to join this engaging and well respected team!

In this role you would be expected to do the following:

  • Provide overall and day to day management of the trials department, staff and trials’ site
  • Be responsible for procuring, planning and managing plant-based experiments
  • Administration of trials including:
  • Procure trials projects
  • Prepare quotes and negotiate contracts
  • Analyse trials tasks and costs
  • Prepare and update protocols
  • Draft and maintain SOPs
  • Be responsible for experimental design and plan preparation
  • Assist with data recording, input, checking, calculate averages, charting
  • Carry out statistical analysis and interpretation
  • Write reports
  • Resource research, obtain quotes, ordering and raising Purchase Orders
  • Monitor casual staff and ensure that timesheets are completed and submitted to Accounts Dept.
  • Office procedures including:
  • Updating job descriptions
  • Maintaining and updating training records
  • Recruitment of staff including casual workers
  • Health and safety and risk assessment duties
  • Department and project development
  • Practical trials site assistance including:
  • Site and trials’ checks, technical problem solving
  • Irrigation maintenance and fertigation duties
  • Plant husbandry and management
  • Pest & disease monitoring, prevention and control
  • Trial implementation
  • Lead and contribute to team meetings
  • Liaise with other departments, clients, contacts and suppliers
  • Prepare for and present at conferences, open days and shows
  • Supervise and train permanent staff and seasonal workers
  • Spraying assistance for trials and routine treatments including:
  • Organise, receive, log in, and store chemicals
  • Rate calibrations
  • Measure, mix and apply trials chemicals (using motorised air assisted knapsack, pump and hand-held types)
  • Record keeping
  • Apply suitable routine chemicals as advised by BASIS qualified advisor
  • Plant assessments assistance including:
  • Organise, prepare and undertake assessments including pest, disease, maturity, quality and storage
  • Harvests and grading
  • Physiological measurements
  • Plant tissue, fruit, water and soil sampling
  • Quality Assurance monitoring including measurement standards
  • Overall responsibility for ORETO & GEP, efficacy considerations and related administration
  • Adhere to ORETO standards and GEP
  • Lead and contribute to team meetings
  • Liaise with other departments, clients, contacts and suppliers
  • Prepare for and present at conferences, open days and shows
  • Supervise and train permanent staff and seasonal workers

  • Must have efficient organisational administrative skills
  • Must be able to provide leadership and focus to a small but highly professional team
  • Be an effective and confident communicator at all levels
  • Be commercially aware and actively seek out new opportunities for the business
  • Should hold, or be working towards BASIS qualification – we can fund this in full for the right candidate
  • Should hold a full UK driving licence with a maximum of six penalty points
  • Must have own, reliable transport
  • Must be familiar with growing systems and processes including propagation, irrigation, fertigation and pest / disease recognition and control
  • Must be able to use Office software to produce reports, spreadsheets etc.
  • Must be able to work flexibly under pressure and prioritise workload to meet deadlines
  • Must be willing and happy to get muddy boots and soil under the fingernails.
  • Must have fluent written and spoken English

Location:            Kent based

Background:      Graduate preferred, but ‘qualified by experience’ would be accepted

We are looking for a candidate with a high level of experience in pome/stone fruit growing or a confident graduate/young manager, fluent English language and most importantly, we are looking for someone who sees this role as a a long-term opportunity and shows passion for what is a quite specific role.

 

 In the role of Top Fruit Advisor you would be expected to do the following….

  • Provide full agronomy support to our existing customer base of commercial fruit growers
  • Build and maintain relationships with colleagues and growers
  • Provide achievable solutions and strategies for the protection of crops
  • You would seek out any new business opportunities for our client
  • Be able to work flexibly under pressure and prioritise workload to meet deadlines
  • Should attend trade shows / conferences etc. in UK and abroad when required to network and broaden industry knowledge
  • You would be working closely with growing systems and processes including propagation, irrigation, fertigation and pest / disease recognition and control
  • Should provide support and advice to Commercial Team
  • Must contribute to regular Grower Advisories
