A leading international Fresh Produce company are looking for a ambitious and highly experienced Head of Operations to join their team in the West Midlands! The role will be based at their head office, but some overseas travel will be required.

The successful candidate will guide and oversee the delivery of high quality and cost efficient service to our customers through professional warehouse management and excellent commercial and budgetary control.

Through the site management teams ensure that existing and new operations achieve / exceed both the company and Customer objectives and targets, within the constraints of the business.

The main focus of this role will be the management and development of the Operational teams in the UK, but will also include overseeing their Operations abroad.  Whilst delivering the plans, the Head of Operations must demonstrate proactivity, efficiency and effectiveness in providing excellent Operations further to drive the growth of the business.

Our client is one of the foremost and respected Transport and Warehouse operations in the UK. They are involved in storage and distribution of mainly Fresh Produce under a strict multi temperature regime. This is a dual site operation but the main location for you will be North Kent.

The Role

  • Reporting to the General Manager.
  • Ensure effective communication throughout the operational leadership team, communicating planned requirements providing information on performance.
  • Ensure that a best in class safety performance is delivered through a behavioural based safety culture.
  • Build and implement an effective employee engagement strategy, resulting in a highly engaged and motivated workforce.
  • To ensure the operation achieves targeted daily and weekly KPIs.
  • To ensure the department provides a quality first class service to each customer.
  • To ensure the department operates within the legal constraints of the operator’s license.
  • Ensure the operation is fully compliant with legislation and company tachograph policy were applicable and the operation complies with the Road Traffic Act;
  • Ensuring financial performance is within budget.
  • Develop a talented team and create robust succession plans for current and future key roles
  • To participate in commercial reviews with the Senior Management Team, Company Finance teams.

The Person

  • Proven experience of working within a fast pace logistics environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, demonstrating the ability to operate at multiple levels and establish effective communication channels in both customer organisations and internal.
  • Robust influencing and negotiation skills – proven to deliver successful change in complex customer operational environments.
  • Experienced in developing and deepening customer relationships, resulting in improved commercial performance and growth delivery.
  • You will be inquisitive, innovative and deliver an exceptional service to the customer. Excellent commercial acumen – understand the dynamics of both open/ closed book operations
  • Able to manage conflict and tough conversations including complex IR issues.
  • The business operates 24/7 therefore it is essential that you are flexible in your approach to work.
  • A CPC holder. (National & International)
  • Own Transport owing to location.

A fantastic position has opened for a Logistics Operations Manager based in Dubai…..The Logistics Operations Manager is responsible for managing both inbound and outbound DC Operations and it may cover as well transport. The role holder is also responsible for coordinating with logistics service providers to ensure the most cost efficient and highest warehouse storage & handling quality.

Role Details – Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

Ensure that the logistics process guarantees the availability of products at the right time, in the ordered quantity and quality as per set standards
Implement logistics strategies and monitor the application of set processes and procedures
Propose and implement action plans in order to increase productivity, performance and effectiveness of the operations
Ensure the implementation of the projects related to operations
Implement the defined procedures related to quality and security of the warehouse in order to ensure the most reliable, hygienic and qualitative deliveries to stores.
Search and propose logistics service providers based on service requirements, efficiency and price
Ensure the application of defined scope of services
Support the monitoring of the building functionality, maintenance, cleaning as per the quality, security and property management standards and regulations
Provides and dispute the monthly inbound and outbound forecast for all activities, based on the information received from Sourcing, Replenishment and Import-Export departments
Monitoring the performance of logistics service providers based on set deliverables
Review and communicate on regular basis with supplier
Propose and discuss areas for improvement
Ensure that all records are correct in order to prepare regular performance and cost related reports
Analyse reports and identify and recommend areas of improvement, suggest solutions and monitor the implementation
Review and analyse the logistics related processes, applications and policies and propose solutions for optimization and cost reduction.
Ensure alignment of procedures in accordance with the Delegation of Authority (DOA)
Assist in monitoring allocated budget to ensure compliance and highlight possible issues
Provide inputs on the preparation of budget when necessary
Confirm the Logistics charges provided by 3PL and provide inputs on cost reduction measures
Ensure that the organization and the results of the annual inventories of the stock
Assist with the implementation of the performance management process by setting objectives, monitoring performance, and provide constructive feedback and provide inputs to senior management
Provide inputs on training needs and coordinate with the HC department to ensure facilitation of training requirements
Develop and implement on the job-training for the team
Provide inputs for the development of annual manpower plan
Ensure the implementation of the company’s corporate policies and relevant procedures

Personal Characteristics and Required Background:

Minimum Qualifications/education

Bachelor Degree in Business Administration / Economics / Supply Chain or equivalent
Minimum experience

  • 5+ years in a similar position
  • Must have experience in Fresh Food / Fresh Produce

Skills

  • DC operations: warehousing with WMS functionalities and transportation in a large retail warehouse operation
  • Negotiation with Third Party Logistics Providers on prices and to get commitment from 3PL on the respect delivery dates and scope of service
