Main Accountabilities

  • Develop and deliver the Fresh Foods Technical business plan as part of the overall Quality and Manufacturing Strategy continuously improving standards
  • Searches for innovation in product and process and enables business innovation delivery
  • The delivery of Technical policies and KPIs, specification & concept to launch
  • Support the delivery of our Sustainability, Ethical Environmental and Business targets
  • Guardianship of product integrity, safety & quality to deliver safe, legal, ethical and successful products that meet Quality Standards consistently, right first time
  • Assesses and enables new business opportunities and business ventures for risk and brand impact and develop risk mitigation strategies
  • Manage supply base performance against a risk-based framework; technical audits and assessments for suppliers
  • Ensure that all products comply with the relevant standards and legislation
  • Monitor and react to market lead activity, industry and retail sector / technical issues
  • Customer Technical requirements to be adhered / followed
  • Presentation delivery at customer meetings / planning for visits
  • Due Diligence management of growers and own business
  • Communication of policies, specifications and other documentation to colleagues / third party growers / stakeholders
  • Communication of Technical standards, especially overseas sites / share farm locations
  • Ad hoc projects and duties as required
  • Cover for other team members, hands on approach to business needs


Knowledge and Skills required

  • Good communication, engagement and motivational skills to drive continuous improvement in food safety and engage and support Commercial, Internal, Compliance, packhouse, quality management colleagues
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of fresh produce processes ideally with retail and manufacturing experience ( Ideally Berries / Stonefruit )
  • Experience of leading change and creating a high performance culture
  • Deep understanding of required food safety legislation and controls to ensure our sites produce safe products for our customers
  • Knowledge of food microbiology, risks assessments and incident management
  • Strong influencing skills and the ability to create a common purpose across teams
  • Strong leadership skills, including strong communication, engagement and motivational skills to drive continuous improvement in food safety
  • Attention to detail, and work to deadlines
  • Being able to work with some customer portals internet based systems.
  • BRC / SMETA / GlobalGAP / Red Tractor / SEDEX  knowledge / experience

Requirements to have

  • Auditing / experience in BRC / GlobalGAP / SMETA / SEDEX
  • Driving License
  • Ability to be able to travel overseas / nationwide
  • Used to working on Zoom, Microsoft Teams and other platforms
  • Use of Word, Excel, Powerpoint, email
  • Foreign language would be useful
