A exciting role has come up with a leading Fresh Produce company in Evesham. They are looking for a experienced Buyer to join their team….

The role is based in Evesham, but there will be international travel involved in the role. 

Main Purpose of the role
To source and procure quality fresh produce to satisfy the orders of the company’s customers.


  • To source, negotiate and place orders at a price, for produce from a given country of responsibility.
  • To build and maintain effective working relationships with agents and shippers.
  •  To develop a detailed understanding of the regional fresh produce industry, your customer base and your competitors.
  •  To develop knowledge of the cultural, economic and environmental factors that may impact upon the business.
  •  To undertake stock analysis and to communicate product availability to other departments.
  •  To negotiate rates with service providers, to include freight forwarders and clearance agents.
  •  To assess all financial risks involved in the procurement of your products, and understand the implications of the business.
  •  To forecast, monitor and grow profitability in your products.
  •  To be confidence to represent our client within the global market.
  • To plan forthcoming seasons requirements in conjunction with the Sales Department.
  • To respond in a timely manner to any emergent problems in relation to the procurement of fruit.
  • To have a working knowledge of all systems and procedures appertaining to the procurement function.
  • To deputise for colleagues and immediate line manager in areas where trained and considered competent, in their absence.
  • Any other reasonable duties to meet the needs of the business.

Person Specifications

  • The ideal candidate must be of smart appearance-This is a key position in the buying department.
  • To develop effective working relationships necessary for sourcing, procuring and planning for future requirements, excellent communication and negotiating skills are essential and fluency in a second language desirable.
  • To develop a detailed understanding of the regional fresh produce markets throughout and develop an appreciation of culture, economic and environmental issues, it will be important for the employee to be prepared to work with a variety of nationalities.
  • To undertake stock analysis and communicate product availability numerical and analytical skills would be essential.
  • To respond to all the principal duties the candidate will be a competent team player, who is able to brief colleagues and prioritise principal tasks.
  • A superior telephone manner would also be advantageous.
  • The disposition of the candidate will be confident, reliable, selfmotivated and flexible. Flexibility will be important due to the range of principal duties and the ability to work reasonable additional hours as necessary.
  • To attain the principal duties the candidate must have excellent communication, IT, liaison, and interpersonal skills.
  • The candidate will have gained experience in a comparable role and have a degree in an appropriate subject.
  • Product knowledge and additional languages would also be desirable
