Head of Production Planning
Now this is an exciting role with a well-known and highly successful Fresh Produce company in Kent.
This role is remote working, nationwide – So it will suit anyone based in the UK with a background in Production Planning within the Fresh Produce (or similar) Industry.
Key Performance Areas:
•To focus on production and based on the following pillars:
• Planting the most appropriate varieties and type of plant material;
• Providing oversight to individual grower’s production and ensuring their crop estimates are contributing to the overall supply of fruit
• Improving grower’s crop forecasts
Principal Accountabilities
• Improve the quality and diversity of the plant material available to growers in order to increase yields, improve fruit quality and, at the same time, to provide the right plant material to guide into creating a market driven production / supply curve.
• Improve the existing agreements with plant propagators (both contracted propagators and propagators of industry standard varieties) and develop new ones in order to secure the very best plant material for the growers;
• Visit propagators regularly in order to identify problems as soon as possible as well as new opportunities or propagation practices;
• Provide leadership in plant supply, including managing the Plants Administrator;
• Propose new types of plants and plant formats;
• Work together with the New Variety Development Manager to identify future varieties and speed up their production;
• Provide regular production advice to growers, either through contributing to the the company Advisory Bulletin or through separate communications.
• Review of growers annual estimates, focusing on yields and timing/crop profiling;
• Identification of opportunities to manipulate crops to improve customer service levels and sales;
• Provide guidance to all growers on choice of varieties and plant types in order to maximise sales opportunities and fill supply voids;
• Provide weekly updates to the Planning and Sales teams on crop production specifics for all crops;
• Undertake weekly forecasting data analysis and identify short- and long-term issues, and propose remediation actions;
• Assist the Planning Team in their review of forecasting accuracy; and,
• Support growers to improve their crop forecasting accuracy of their weekly estimates, including visiting growers during the UK season.
• Work with all growers and Planning on annual production / Supply plans, referencing the company demand plans.
Person Specification
• You would be able to demonstrate a strong background in Production Planning , Grower interactions, Supply Planning and more
• Fresh Produce experience experience is highly advantageous
• Positive, outgoing and with a friendly personality;
• Excellent communicator – both verbal and written with particular skill in interpreting technical subjects to non-technical audiences;
• Autodidactic;
• Good track record in overcoming challenges;
• Investigative mind-set;
• Able to present data in a way that is simple to interpret for a non-technical audience;
• Strong problem-solving skills;
• Logical, numerical and systematic;
• Ability to work alone on own initiative or as part of a team as required; and,
• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines by planning work time and managing priorities
