Procurement Support

A fantastic opportunity has become available for a Junior Procurement professional to join a successful Fruit business in Kent. Our client is a well known, major fruit grower, packer, importer and distributor to UK retailers. – Due to this increasing success, there is a need to expand their Procurement team to meet the increasing demands from both their customers and their suppliers. This is a exciting opportunity to join a lively team and making a key contribution to their business.

They are looking for a Procurement Support Manager to support the Procurement Director/ Manager in the procurement of Fresh Produce (Mostly Berries) from overseas and to also help manage the UK Procurement. They will learn and adapt as required.  The successful applicant will also be required to focus their time with some key accounts, so there will be significant communication with their Account Managers and their customers.  Interpersonal and communication skills a must.

Key Responsibilities
To liaise with overseas suppliers as agreed with your line Leader (Procurement Manager)
To liaise with certain customers to update them on their stock and procurement programmes
Full understanding of the procurement process to talk with confidence on best practice from all sources
Daily communication with the Operations and Technical teams
Full knowledge of stock availability – short, medium and long term
Support for the Procurement Director Manager in all required areas and to work alongside them to gain full experience of the role
Reporting of seasonal information internally and externally to keep key stakeholders up to date

Summary of Key Tasks
Stock management
Regular liaison with buyers of major multiples
Regular liaison with suppliers overseas
Close working relationships with retail team
Close working with Head of Procurement to learn and adapt to all processes
Joint meetings with customers and their Retail team (Account Managers)
Reporting of information
Analysis of large data sets
Creating charts

Personal Attributes
Experience in a similar role within the Fresh Produce / Fruit Industry
Other language skills a benefit
Outgoing with the ability to get on with people from customer to supplier level
At least 1 year’s Procurement / Buying (or similar ) experience
Excel skills – Intermediate or above to include demonstrable proficiency in:
Strong negotiation skills
Well organised with the ability to react to change quickly
Ability to anticipate potential problems
Reliable and flexible attitude
