A leading Fresh Produce company in Kent are looking for a experienced Transport Manager to join their thriving team!

Main Purpose of the role

The main purpose of the role will be to promote and maintain, a compliant, efficient and lean transport department with a 1st in class health and safety culture.

During the UK seasons, you will be working closely with the farm managers as their transport provider to transport the bins of fruit from the farms and backload the empty bins back to the farms.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • There will also be opportunities to drive cost in to the department and continue the revenue stream once the UK season has peaked andnbuild the department in to its very own profit and loss centre.
  • Ensure all drivers preform to and maintain the standards required in line with the undertakings of the operator licence for BTS.
  • Operator Licence holder for BTS and overall responsibility for remaining compliant at all times.
  • Plan and organise daily work load for the department’s drivers, ensuring driving hours are maximised.
  • Monitor and manage daily reports & costings
  • Adhering too and promote a safe working environment.
  • Overall responsibility for the employee life cycle within the department.
  • Champion current employees within the department to maximise and fulfil their potential.
  • To manage the fleet and associated drivers, ensuring compliant to all rules and regulations associated to haulage and HGV’s.
  • Manage costs and overheads, monitored daily ensuring profitability is maintained.
  • Daily compliance checks, I.E start up checks and weekly tacho checks for infringements
  • Ensure all vehicles are unloaded, reloaded within 1 hour of arrival at delivery, collection point

Experience and Qualifications required:

  • · Previous experience of working within a 3rd party haulage environment
  • · Demonstrable ability to communicate effectively, clearly and professionally over the telephone
  • · Transport Manager CPC
  • Previous experience working within a similar role within the fruit industry & temperature-controlled produce. ·(desirable)
  • Cat C+E Licence. ·(desirable)
  • Forklift truck / Counterbalance Licence (desirable)
  • · Proven experience of a can-do, positive attitude with the proven ability to problem solve
  • · Previous experience of working in a cost driven organisation and practical knowledge of cost, budgeting and financial control within a profit & loss environment
  • · Strong and up to date knowledge of driver compliance rules and regulations
  • · An ability and desire to work with detail and to be accurate in the approach to work
  • · History of working with numerical and financial data with GCSE Maths at a Grade C /Level 4 or higher (desirable)
