This is a very EXCITING new role....We are looking for a Business Development Manager to work in one of Europe's busiest ports!

Role Overview:

This key commercial role focuses on developing and managing perishable cargo accounts at the Port of Dover. With a strong emphasis on customer relationship management, the post holder will identify, secure, and grow revenue opportunities across the perishables supply chain—working with growers, importers, supermarkets, shipping lines, and logistics providers.

The Business Development Manager (Perishables) will be working within the Commercial team, reporting to our Head of Business Development who reports directly to the Chief Commercial Officer.

You will build partnerships with customers up and down the supply chain realising and growing our pipeline of business. The role is responsible for a significant revenue with profit and loss accountability.

Working in partnership with our client's Operational team you will ensure quality standards are world-class in food security, safety, quality and sustainability. The role will involve working with our service teams and operations to deliver a range of exciting and challenging commercial projects in one of Europe's busiest ports.

You will need a strong customer background in sales, account management and business development along with a passion for delivering world-class supply chain solutions nationally and internationally.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Drive commercial growth of the Port's perishables business

  • Manage key client accounts and develop new B2B opportunities

  • Lead on commercial presentations, proposals, and trade engagement

  • Analyse market and customer data to inform business strategy

  • Ensure top-tier service standards in food safety, quality, and sustainability

  • Collaborate across departments to deliver strategic projects

Ideal Candidate Profile:

  • 10+ years in perishables, shipping, logistics or fresh food sectors
  • Proven track record in business development and client management
  • Excellent knowledge of international trade and cold chain logistics
  • Experience within the perishable/reefer industry within a Port environment (desirable)
  • Strong commercial, marketing, and financial acumen (P&L responsibility). The Successful candidate would have a proven track record as a Business development manager or similar.
  • Skilled communicator and public speaker, confident at senior levels
  • Resilient, innovative, and customer-focused with a passion for supply chain excellence
  •  Undertake International, European and UK travel
  • Project Management experience would be desirable

We have a great new opportunity for a Fresh Produce Sales Manager to join a well-respected, successful Fresh Produce company based in Kent. They have a developed through technology and innovation an enviable Business model to serve UK Retail and Non-Retail customers with Fruit, Salads and Organic produce year-round. They are looking for a Sales professional to join their Non-Retail sales Team and work with the Head of Non-Retail as they look to develop and expand their existing offering in the primary and secondary wholesale, Fresh Prepared, Foodservice and a portfolio of other customers. You will have a good understanding of how non-retail works, most likely dealing with UK Home delivery Companies, Processors, Packers, Category Managers…. You will help to drive performance across the team, and existing external stakeholders, whilst also introducing new customers and suppliers. You will be involved in helping to manage all aspects of the relationships they have developed with their existing customers, ensuring they receive the best possible service and helping them to maximise their sales opportunities. An opportunity to develop your knowledge and understanding of how these markets really work with excellent mentoring (where required) from a top performing team. What we are looking for?
  • We are looking for somebody with a minimum of 2 years’ experience working in a Sales and / or Procurement capacity with a background of working with fresh produce, particularly fruit.
  • You will have developed strong supplier and customer relationships that you can bring with you to this role, together with evidence of a financially successful trading record.
  • You will be proficient in supply chain processes, with a good understanding of world geography and experience of managing logistical issues in terms of moving products globally.
  • Ability to speak a second language, particularly Spanish, would be desirable not expected.
  • You’ll thrive in a fast-paced environment, be accustomed to working to tight timescales and feel comfortable managing a number of different tasks simultaneously.
  • You’ll be IT literate, especially with MS Word and Excel and ideally have experience of using an ERP system, although training will be provided.
  • You must be a confident communicator, with a strong outgoing personality and the ability to communicate effectively with both internal and external stakeholders, assisting with queries and resolving issues quickly and efficiently.
