Our client is a major international marketers, producer and distributor of Fresh Produce globally…They are a successful and highly respected company and it would be a fantastic career move to join their Quality Assurance team based in Belgium…To strengthen their Quality team they are keen to speak with a highly experienced Quality Assurance Supervisor to join their team in Antwerp.

 

As the Quality Assurance Supervisor you would be….

Reporting to the Regional Manager QA Fresh and you will be responsible for:

  • Undertake daily quality control for incoming and out bounding products.
  • Coordinates all quality control/inspections functions under the supervision of Regional Manager QA.
  • To manage on a day to day basis the QC team including resource allocation and communication with the team ensuring we have proper and adequate shift cover & timely communication.
  • To ensure a correct handover between shifts and from one day to the next.
  • Responsible for verification of the quality of products, record and report of every quality Inspection of the product at arrival, in stock and at delivery, quality test. And communicate result of inspection to the team members.
  • Support in the management of the quality, improvement of the process related to quality control.
  • Train quality inspectors
  • To attend and partake planning meeting, where required.
  • To ensure compliance to customer product specifications and service levels.
  • Inspect rejections from customers up on return to ensure accurate & timely communication to the whole team and external sources as required.
  • To be primary interface for daily quality issues from commercial colleagues & to action their enquiries regarding quality.
  • Maintain and ensuring proper understanding of produce quality and safety is obtained by QC personnel
  • Assist Quality Manager in designing & implementation of quality assurance policy / quality management system (QMS) ensuring it is efficient, implemented and is effective.
  • To develop and use training tools to ensure the training frame work is kept up to date and accurate.
  • To ensure that company QC procedures and adhered to and updated.
  • To oversee/control the quality assurance systems and standards of product packed at third party sites by handling and analysing claims if required.
  • To liaise with technical manager & suppliers to help prevent repeat rejection issues.
  • Handle all Ad Hoc QC/QA mission/matter (including Labo preparation, data inputs).

 

We are looking for a candidate who is/has:

  • University degree in Agronomy/Horticulture or related agricultural studies (experience at field level)
  • 2-5  years’ experience with fresh produce
  • Specific knowledge of Quality Control, Quality Management and Certifications (GAP, IFS, BRC, HACCP, SCS).
  • English fluently is a MUST. Other language is a plus
  • Good analytic skills
  • Excel, power point
  • Be able to work under pressure
  • Professional, well organized, establishing and following Processes and Procedures
  • Able to work independently and travel as required
  • Teamwork

A innovative and highly successful Fresh Produce company are looking for a experienced Head of Crop Production to join their team in Kent….Our client is one of the largest producers of Soft Fruit in the UK, in this new and exciting role you will lead and direct the strategic objective of ensuring growers are sustainable and providing them with industry leading services whilst producing the very best fruit for customers and the consumer.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREA

  • Lead and direct the strategic objective of ensuring our growers are sustainable and providing them with industry leading services whilst producing the very best fruit for our client’s customers and the consumer.

 

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Co-ordinate and influence the groups overall production information and forecasts, incorporating individual growers plans in to our production plan aimed at meeting the markets demands and our strategic development.
  • As the plant and propagation lead in the business to manage plant order forecasting and the management of the planning and distribution of proprietary plant material to our growers in fruit. To follow up on plant claims & quality issues.
  • Key relationship manager working closely with our strategic partners in plant propagation and overseeing our five-year nursery plans.
  • Lead the team of agronomists and our crop production bulletin, under the management of our Agronomy Manager.
  • Design, our programme of educational visits, farm walks and benchmarking to define and promote best practice and continuous improvement.
  • Scope and manage the blueprints for test plots in which we assess the performance of new varieties and growing techniques.
  • Define strategy for the evolving requirements of the grower services team and laboratory providing scientific support to our growers.
  • Horizon scanning on crop production developments and representation in our Grower research advisory panel.

  • Evidence of extensive experience working in a comparable role, preferably within the soft fruit industry / in horticultural production and / or crop advice.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To promote agronomic best practice in order that the company’s grower members may become the most technically competent, profitable and aware in the UK industry, and specifically to:
  • Understand and appreciate the aims of the Advisory Service.
  • Undertake regular visits to members’ farms to a schedule agreed with each individual member and Senior Regional Agronomist prior to the commencement of each season, to include;
  • Pest and disease monitoring reported by ICMS Sheet following each visit
  • Control recommendations provided through the Muddy Boots GLGM platform, including use and distribution of ‘beneficial species’
  • Crop notes and photos to be communicated to the grower highlighting specific issues
  • Incorporation and interpretation of trapping data provided by the pest monitoring team
  • Organise and participate in taking of soil or substrate, plant, leaf or sap samples, including ‘Plant Health’ testing.
  • Planning and prescription of Integrated Pest Management Strategies
  • Basic Crop husbandry and hygiene recommendations, in accordance with Senior Regional Agronomists direction
  • Irrigation strategy recommendations
  • Analysis of growing media and ‘fertigation’ management recommendations
  • Environmental management recommendations
  • Flower mapping interpretation
  • Interpretation of Plant health testing results

SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supporting research programmes and adaption of new technologies on farm
  • Support and advise the introduction of beneficial new varieties.  Assisting in selecting most suitable varieties for the site, soil and production systems, and to ensure that the best agronomic practices for each of the new varieties are being acted upon and implemented.
  • Liaise and collaborate with Pest Monitoring teams to plan distribution and maintenance of pest monitoring traps and devices
  • To assist with hosting and facilitating training events, meetings farm walks and any other such events held to support and expand members (and their staff’s) knowledge and understanding.
  • Contribute to a regular fortnightly technical bulletin and disseminate useful and pertinent agronomic information obtained from industry meetings and events, for distribution to other technical colleagues and, where appropriate, for circulation to members.
  • Assists with training and development of trainees as directed by Senior Regional Agronomists or Agronomy Manager.
  • Dedicate time towards maintaining and increasing own familiarity with all crops produced by growers, through personal development.

Growing Manager

Job Purpose:-

 To be responsible for growing a high yielding crop that meet the needs of retail supermarket  customer specifications including quality assurance, crop husbandry, achieving production targets  & goals in areas designated by Head of Growing. Managing and Monitoring the cycle  from plant delivery to harvest.

 

Main Responsibilities:-

  • Quality of plants – Ensure that all purchased plants meet our clients quality specification. Report any problems to the Head of Growing immediately.
  • Pre-planting & Planting – Ensure that tunnels and troughs are prepared in accordance with operational procedure as directed by the Head of Growing, including stock control of relevant materials. Oversea the planting operations and quality of all commercial crops
  • Crop Maintenance & Husbandry – Plan and deliver against the annual husbandry tasks and labour requirements.  Implement irrigation, fertigation and plant protection products as required throughout the season and maintain records to enable future analysis and improvements. Ensure that spraying is in compliance with current legislation and agreed guidelines.
  • Yield information  & Crop Calendar – Providing accurate yield information, developing an annual crop calendar, husbandry manpower plan, carry out monthly stock takes of chemical and fertilizers; ensure that field maps are correct and up to date.
  • Crop monitoring – Ensure that crop and environmental systems are accurately controlled and monitored all the times. Arrange leaf, soil and water analysis to the matrix plan. Ensure bio controls are applied in time. Ensure pests and diseases are monitored and appropriate action is taken. Produce a crop prediction report on weekly basis. Ensure that all growing practices and procedures are compliant with Nurtures Choice, Assured Produce and any other auditing bodies.
  • Quality assurance & Communication  – Work closely with Technical Department. Ensure that any potential problems are reported to Head of Growing or in his absence the operations Director.

What we are looking for:-

  • Someone with at least 4-5 years in a similar role
  • Must have ‘hands on’ growing management experience
  • Must have Fresh Produce experience (current)
  • FACTS, BASIS, PRIVA, PA1, 2, 6a and b. preferable.
  • You would be commercial focused and understand how an effective and efficiently run growing operation can contribute to stronger overall business profitability.
  • You would be a strong communicator and be used to working with growing teams in a similar way

We are looking for someone with experience in strawberries in table top production along with excellent skills in the use of PRIVA and knowledge of heating.
