JOB TITLE:      Salad – Production Manager

MAIN PURPOSE:

To manage site operations, ensuring production targets are met in full, within budget and within quality specification.
To ensure compliance with all legal, customer, environmental and  policies.
 

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Advise the UK Senior Farms Manager of resources required to successfully manage day to day operations.
  2. Strive to meet raw material supply orders as received with in-spec material delivered at an agreed time, in full, within the framework of  Code of Practice for the Hygienic Production of Raw Materials and within the parameters laid down by the company’s Cold Chain Policy.
  3. Through the growing team, maintain planting and drilling programmes and ensure efficient use of seed, pesticides, fertilisers and water during crop production.
  4. Work with the Harvest Planner to produce accurate crop availability and quality forecasts.
  5. Ensure appropriate performance records are maintained. Report all KPIs in a timely manner to the relevant departments. Assist the UK Senior Farms Manager in writing the annual budget. React promptly and effectively to adverse performance.
  6. Challenge the traditional methods of operation and develop the team. Research production methods to increase efficiencies year on year whilst showing continuous improvement to sustainability.
  7. Work closely with the Agronomist to develop improved production methods aimed at enhancing yield and quality whilst driving down unit cost of production.
  8. Assist the UK Senior Farms Manager to develop the growing strategy.
  9. Ensure farm staff are fully briefed as to business developments.
  10. To ensure that all staff receive adequate and appropriate training to enable them to fulfil their duties effectively.
  11. Implement and maintain Personal Development Plans for all key members of staff.
  12. Ensure staff and operations at the site have a positive impact upon the local environment and maintain and develop positive relationships within the local community.
  13. Work with overseas farms / growers, utilising equipment during the non-growing season.
  14. Ensure that the operation works equally and as efficiently in your absence.The team should be flexible enough to react to any conditions that might arise
  15. Maintain and develop the relationship with the local community
  16. Work closely the Environment Agency and Environment Manager on improving quality of water discharging to the receiving waters.

Qualifications / Experience and Skills:

  • At least 2 years in a Farming environment, ideally in a ‘hands on’ Farming Production role
  • Fresh Produce , ideally Salad Production experience
  • You must posses a strong interest in environmental issues, agricultural and farming practices -Evidence of this interest is ideal
  • Ideally you would be in a similar position within the Industry for 2-3 years
  • Agricultural degree is advantageous

Harvest Manager (Seasonal)

A large Farming operation and well known Fresh Produce company are looking to expand their team with a Seasonal Harvest Manager….! This role will be based at their Farming site in Kent

MAIN PURPOSE:

To be responsible for the management of salad leaf harvesting and dispatch operations at our client’s Farm to the quality and quantity set by our client.  To be responsible for ensuring that harvest operations are carried out efficiently and according to the group’s health and safety, food hygiene and cold chain protocols.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Co-ordination and management of harvest labour force made up of seasonal staff, employed over the growing season at the Farm, to include conventional, herbs and organics.
  2. Daily communications with Farm Manager, Seasonal Fridge Operative, Procurement Team, Technical and Transport Departments.
  3. Monitoring of harvest operations with regard to improvements and cost savings that can be made to operational systems.
  4. Ensure a daily rolling forecast of all crops is completed in full, which complies with the raw material specification.
  5. To oversee with Seasonal Fridge Operative the stock rotation and storage in the fridge. Ensuring that all raw materials stored comply with Technical standards and policies.
  6. To oversee the Harvest Team and ensure compliance with all procedures and policies which relates to Health & Safety, Food Hygiene and Farm audits.
  7. Recording and inputting of harvest data onto the traceability system, maintain all relevant paper work.
  8. To ensure that harvest machinery and cold store facility is maintained in accordance with manufacturers recommendations and supporting paperwork completed.
  9. To be responsible for sourcing all materials required to effectively manage the harvest and dispatch operations.
  10. In conjunction with the Leaf Farm Administrator complete all necessary Inductions of Seasonal Staff with supporting paperwork.
  11. Oversee the completion of seasonal staff timesheets on Monday’s and once completed hand in to the Leaf Farm Administrator.
  12. To take charge of the harvest operation at weekends on a rotational basis.
  13. To take charge of the accommodation of the seasonal staff and provide disciplinary input where required.
  14. To be fully responsible to the Farm Manager for all H & S and advise Farm Manager of any improvements needed.

The person:

  • Ideally, you would have at least 1 years in a Farming / Growing position, ideally working with Fresh Produce (Salads would be advantageous)
  • Experience working with Farming Health and Safety
  • Strong administration skills (in a similar role)
  • You must have excellent communication skills
  • Ideally you would have a background in Agronomy, Fresh Produce Growing, Production, Glass House Production, etc.
  • You would have a strong interest in environmental issues
  • Ideally you would have a Agricultural Degree, or similar
  • A full driving license is essential.
  • You’ll be a great team player and be passionate about Fresh produce.

Salad Farming Manager

Our client (part of a highly successful International Group) , is well respected in the trade and specialises in UK grown salad crops with a number of quality brands in major retailers. They have initiated a new position to take operational control of one of their specialty crops based in Hampshire.

The Farm Manager will be responsible for the daily planning, organsiation, supervision and administration of activities on the salad farm. The role will call on many disciplines not least is a good operational background in this area, some of the other areas would be a knowledge of Agronomy, compliance, Health and Safety, sustainability in farming, environmental issues critically water recycling, NPD, Logistics, quality management, budgeting, maintenance, crop production and harvesting.

You’ll be working on an outdoor salad farm in Hampshire, assisting the Farm Manager in all operations of salad crop production. You’ll undertake field cultivations, crop spraying and irrigation as required, manage the workshop and maintain stock levels.

The person:

  • You would have at least 2 years in a Farming / Growing position, working with Salads.
  • You would have strong ‘hands on’ farming experience
  • You must have excellent communication skills
  • Ideally you would have a background in Agronomy, Fresh Produce Growing, Production, Glass House Production, etc.
  • You would have a strong interest in environmental issues
  • Ideally you would have a Agricultural Degree, or similar
  • A full driving license is essential.
  • You’ll be a great team player and be passionate about produce!
