Reports to: Business Unit Director

The Commercial Manager participates in the creation of the business strategy to attract new and profitable business opportunities. Working towards profitable sales growth through development of multiple-level, long-term relationships with customers; growing and maintaining an ongoing sales channel for new business opportunities. Researches and understands prospective target markets, including company, contacts and which strategies can be used to best attract clients; builds and maintains positive relationships with prospective customers, identifying opportunities and then securing revenue against targets. Works with senior decision-makers within new customer organisations, taking a long term strategic approach for the supply of services.  Maximises networking opportunities and regularly uses events and trade shows to increase awareness and develop a further network of contacts.

Key accountabilities and decision ownership:

  • Creates, implements and delivers the customer long term strategy, across a number of product areas, existing and new, whilst maintaining a consistent brand approach.
  • Develops new business relationships, building contacts and networking with other industry professionals, including sustaining effective relationships with existing clients, suppliers and competitors – maintaining an effective source of market intelligence and issues that may affect future new business opportunities.
  • Links customer strategy through pro-active collaboration with Operational, Technical and Commercial Teams.

Our client is one of Kenya’s leading growers and exporters of fresh produce and flowers and with an enduring reputation for quality. As a result of continued growth they are looking to recruit a Sales Professional to join their lively Fresh Produce and Floriculture (export) Team based in Nairobi .

Their ideal candidate, will be someone who has a good knowledge of the UK and/or European retailers. Experience within the cut flower and / or fresh produce industry, either within the UK or Europe is essential.

Customer Insight :- Develop a deep understand of your customer and their markets. Use category tools (data systems and sources) to take the lead on customer strategy and product planning .

The successful candidate would have the following experience:-

  • You will have extensive knowledge of the fresh produce and or Horticulture / Floriculture supply chain and a deep understanding of an international customer base.

Our client are a major international Fresh Produce Group, they have offices located throughout Europe and now have a strong presence in the UK. Therefore they are looking for a skilled and energetic Sales professional with at least 2 years in Fresh Produce Sales or Trading role to continue their success in the UK.

Our client is an established business who have steadily grown to become a leading name in the fresh produce industry, they have a tremendous amount of knowledge within the business and are considered experts in the fresh produce sector.You will be responsible for developing and maintaining existing client relationships within the Sales & Marketing department, whilst identifying and targeting new business opportunities particularly in the non-retail sector.

To be successful in this role you will need to be a high calibre sales professional, ideally with a portfolio of customers in Wholesale Markets, Food Service, Processors, Category Managers (This is ideal, not essential). It is unlikely that you would have less than two years experience within the Fresh Produce industry and used to growing business within healthy and stable relationships. A combination of a proactive trading mentality and a strategic thinker would be essential.

You will have an eye for opportunities and jump on any chances to help grow sales and the business. You will be able to utilise your experience and relationships to help drive the business forward and help grow the top and bottom lines for the business.

The ideal candidate will have fresh produce trading experience. You will have a proven track record of delivering sales and new business in the wholesale, catering and processor markets. You will be a team player and have a good ‘can-do’ attitude

Salary range is £25,000 + for a Junior Sales with at least 1-2 years experience

Salary is open for a more Senior Sales candidates  (£35,000 – £50,000 +). We would expect you to have at least 4 years in the Industry, ideally with some contacts in the Non retail sector within Fresh Produce / Fresh food.

Sourcing great quality produce at a good price to not only ensure satisfied customers but repeat business with your contacts

Trading a variety of fresh produce to UK Supermarkets or Non retail outlets such as wholesalers and foodservice companies around the country.

Understanding your customers, and ensuring their requirements are met.

Using your experience and relationships to help drive the business forward and help grow the top and bottom lines for the business

The successful candidate: –

  • You would have extraordinary Sales skills, ideally working within the Fresh Produce Industry…. We would be open to any level of experience if you have some exposure to the Fruit / Fresh Produce Sales
  • You will have a proven track record of delivering sales and new business in the retail or wholesale, catering and processor markets (In the UK).
  • Experience trading in fruit ideally, other produce would be considered but fruit is a definite advantage.
