Job Description

Reporting to the Head of Health & Safety, you will provide expert fire safety leadership, ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation while developing and embedding a robust Fire Safety Management System across the port.

This is a unique opportunity to influence safety strategy at scale, working across operational environments, commercial buildings, engineering projects, marine facilities and major infrastructure developments.

This position is offered on a 6-month fixed-term contract.

The Role

As Fire Safety Manager/Engineer, you will act as our client's subject matter expert for all fire safety matters, driving compliance, governance and continual improvement.

You will be responsible for developing and implementing the Port Fire Safety Strategy, overseeing fire risk assessment programmes and providing technical assurance across buildings, operational areas and capital projects.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading the Fire Safety Management System and governance framework.
  • Developing fire safety policies, standards and procedures.
  • Managing and assuring statutory Fire Risk Assessments across the estate.
  • Undertaking and validating complex and higher-risk Fire Risk Assessments.
  • Providing technical advice on active and passive fire protection measures.
  • Supporting Engineering, Estates, Capital Projects and Building Compliance teams.
  • Reviewing designs, refurbishments and construction projects to ensure fire safety compliance.
  • Leading fire safety audits, inspections and compliance reporting.
  • Developing and testing emergency plans, evacuation strategies and fire drills.
  • Managing contractor fire safety arrangements and hot work controls.
  • Liaising with Kent Fire & Rescue Service, insurers and regulators.
  • Producing executive-level reports, KPIs and improvement plans.
  • Conducting fire safety training needs analysis and supporting key stakeholder engagement activities.

What You'll Deliver

Success in this role will be measured through:

  • Implementation of an effective Fire Safety Management System.
  • Management of 100% of statutory Fire Risk Assessments.
  • Development and approval of the Fire Safety Strategy and governance framework.
  • Delivery of a comprehensive fire safety audit programme.
  • Establishment of meaningful executive KPI reporting.
  • Positive assurance outcomes from regulators and insurers.
  • Development of a port-wide fire safety training needs analysis.

About You

We're seeking a confident, technically capable professional who can operate strategically while remaining hands-on when required.

Essential Qualifications & Experience

  • Degree (or higher qualification) in Fire Engineering, Fire Safety Engineering, Building Surveying, Building Control, Engineering or a related technical discipline.
  • Advanced competence in fire safety (EQF Level 5 / RQF Level 4 or above).
  • ABBE Level 4 Fire Risk Assessment qualification.
  • IFTC Level 4 Fire Risk Assessment qualification.
  • Knowledge of the Building Safety Act and related fire safety legislation.
  • Competence in Higher-Risk Buildings.
  • Membership of GIFireE/MIFireE or actively working towards membership.
  • Commitment to maintaining at least 25 hours of Continuing Professional Development annually.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
  • Flexibility to participate in an on-call rota.
  • The ability to access heights and vessels within a harbour environment.

Desirable Qualifications & Experience

  • NEBOSH Fire Certificate.
  • NEBOSH Diploma.
  • ISO 45001 Lead Auditor qualification.
  • Passive Fire Protection and Fire Door Inspection qualifications.
  • Experience gained within ports, airports, rail, defence, logistics or other critical national infrastructure environments.

ABOUT THE ROLE
The Commercial Sales Director for Foodservice will have core responsibility for the development of sales, driving revenue, profit, and strategic growth across the division.
This role drives the commercial performance, leading sales teams, shaping market strategy, and building key customer partnerships to enhance market share and deliver future sales growth.
The foodservice operation works from 15 locally managed BRCGS-accredited depots, employing around 950 people and operating a fleet of 350 refrigerated vehicles. With coverage across most of the UK, six days a week, it serves a diverse customer base comprising approximately 50% independent businesses and 50% contract and corporate accounts.A comprehensive range of fresh produce is sourced both locally and globally, alongside an extensive selection of dairy, bakery, non-perishable and fine food products.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Responsible for developing and delivering the strategic sales direction for the foodservice business nationally through profitable performance and developing future growth

We are looking for a proactive, customer-focused Business Development Manager (General Cargo) to join our clients growing Commercial team. This is an exciting, commercial role that supports the development of general cargo services and helps drive new business opportunities across the sector. You will manage day-to-day relationships with customers, generate new leads, commercial proposals, and help deliver the our client's wider commercial strategy. This is a hands-on, customer-facing role with real impact in shaping the future of their general Cargo operations.

What You’ll Be Doing

Customer Relationship Management •    Manage daily interactions with general cargo customers, ensuring high levels of service and timely responses. •    Support customer onboarding and align operational requirements across internal teams. •    Maintain regular customer engagement to identify service improvements and upsell opportunities. •    Produce and maintain account management plans with guidance from the Head of Business Development.

Business Development Support •    Identify and qualify new commercial leads through networking, market insight, and industry engagement. •    Support the preparation of proposals, tenders, and customer presentations. •    Gather operational and financial data to support business cases and forecasting. •    Contribute to sales pipeline updates and support negotiations by coordinating key inputs.

Operational Coordination & Service Delivery •    Work closely with Operations, Finance, Engineering and other teams to ensure customer expectations are met. •    Monitor service performance, escalating any issues or improvement needs. •    Support rate and tariff updates through materials preparation and customer communication. •    Maintain accurate KPI tracking for general cargo accounts within the CRM.

Market Awareness & Promotion •    Attend industry and trade events, ensuring leads are captured and followed up. •    Gather and share market intelligence on competitors, cargo flows and emerging opportunities.

Reporting & Administration •    Maintain accurate CRM records and prepare routine reports on market activity, customer performance, and events. •    Assist in developing internal and external presentations and documents. •    Ensure compliance with relevant quality, safety, security and sustainability standards.

Team & Cross-Functional Support •    Support commercial project delivery by coordinating tasks and monitoring progress. •    Contribute to discussions on improving service quality and operational efficiency. •    Support strategic initiatives led by the Head of Business Development.

What We’re Looking For

Knowledge & Experience •    Experience in account management or business development within a commercial environment. •    Background in logistics, supply chain or ports (desirable). •    Strong customer relationship management skills across multiple accounts. •    Understanding of supply chain operations and basic financial principles. •    Competent user of Microsoft Office; full UK driving licence required. Desirable: •    Project management experience •    Knowledge of quality, security or food safety standards •    Understanding of regulatory frameworks

We have a great new opportunity for a Fresh Produce Sales Manager to join a well known successful Fresh Produce company in Kent

They are have a fantastic trading team and are keen for someone to join with experience working with UK Retail customers. You will have an excellent understanding of how the UK Fresh Produce industry work. You will help to drive performance across the team, and existing external stakeholders, whilst also introducing new customers and suppliers.

You will be involved in helping to manage all aspects of the relationships they have developed with their existing customers, ensuring they receive the best possible service and helping them to maximise their sales opportunities.

What we are looking for?

  • We are looking for somebody with a minimum of 3-4 years’ experience working in a Sales and / or Procurement capacity with a background of working with fresh produce, particularly fruit.
  • You will have developed strong supplier and customer relationships that you can bring with you to this role, together with evidence of a financially successful trading record.
  • You will be proficient in supply chain processes, with a good understanding of world geography and experience of managing logistical issues in terms of moving products globally.
  • Ability to speak a second language, particularly Spanish, would be a distinct advantage in this role.
  • You’ll thrive in a fast-paced environment, be accustomed to working to tight timescales and feel comfortable managing a number of different tasks simultaneously.
  • You’ll be IT literate, especially with MS Word and Excel and ideally have experience of using an ERP system, although training will be provided.
  • You must be a confident communicator, with a strong outgoing personality and the ability to communicate effectively with both internal and external stakeholders, assisting with queries and resolving issues quickly and efficiently.

Our client are looking for a experienced Trading Account Manager to join their commercial team based in West Midlands, UK. 

 This role will report directly into the Head of Sales.

Key Responsibilities 

  • Develop and deliver an effective UK/IRE & EU sales strategy that drives sales and maximises company profit
  • Develop relationships with import supply base in UK & Europe
  • Negotiate pricing with customers and suppliers to achieve the best result for the company, taking into consideration all factors when setting price levels.
  • Regular customer communication and attend meetings as required.
  • Mange trading offers end to end, sending daily availabilities to key retail customers.
  • Build an understanding of market conditions by daily communication with suppliers and customers, capitalise on market opportunities wherever possible.
  • Understand customers stock levels to minimise any overstocks and manage any issues accordingly with them.
  • Manage and minimise any customer claims due to quality issues on arrival.
  • Ensure adherence to company procedures
