A well known name and well respected company within the Fresh Produce Industry are now looking for a Import Supervisor to join their busy Clearing Agent team which is based in Kent.

Import Supervisor…..

As Import Supervisor, you will be responsible for facilitating the most cost effective, efficient and sustainable methods for the import of fresh produce through various ports in compliance with Government and other regulations for onward delivery to business units.

It’ll be your responsibility to arrange cost effective deliveries with approved hauliers, communicating with relevant people.   You’ll then process, check and endorse all shipping documentation to gain release from shipping lines, ensuring all paperwork is correct for the smooth and efficient clearance process.

By applying your proven import experience, you’ll participate in projects and support the team to continuously improve processes and procedures.  It’s important to us that knowledge is transferred within the team, so we’re looking for someone who will supervise, mentor and develop other members of the team.

Other responsibilities in this role will include the completion of HMRC declarations, and liaising with DEFRA, FERA and local port health authorities and to ensure the compliance of the incoming produce with the various government departments.

 

Our client’s perfect Import Coordinator would have:

  • The understanding and proven experience of working within a customs/clearance/imports role with the familiarity of government bodies and regulations regarding customs and excise.

To effectively and efficiently manage the use of all stock in the fruit category from arrival at the warehouse to dispatch, with some requirement to follow up to the end customers.

Working with our third-party quality inspection teams, warehousing operators and customers.    Selecting product based on intake inspections that would be best suited for different customer specifications, liaising with warehouse operations on stock allocations and planning space for arrivals, visiting customers/packhouses to develop relationships, understand process and how we can improve the supply chain efficiency and value returns to the farm while delivering customer expectations.

The liaising with our main distribution warehouse in Holland and the logistics/commercial team in UK and our colleagues in Chile is key to the role.

ROLE / ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • To ensure that the quality of the fruit in each pallet is quantified and communicated to all relevant parties.
  • To make decisions on the most effective and efficient use of the fruit. Communicating any changes to the Logistics teams.
  • To provide accurate and timely information to communicate to the growers and commercial staff.
  • To liaise with the relevant Technologists on all aspects of fruit quality.
  • To provide advice and training to all colleagues who are involved in the process to supply the fruit to various customers, giving guidance on ripening of some fruits.
  • A close working relationship with the cold store to ensure a smooth-running relationship across all levels
  • To help in the development and improvement of the raw material and customer specifications.
  • To monitor fruit re-packing / ripening process to ensure it meets customer needs.
  • Visiting customers / packhouses across Europe to develop relationships and obtain the maximum pack-out (minimise waste) of our fruit and understand process improvements
  • Documenting and reporting information in the season and compiling end of season reports by customer/product.

The Commercial Manager will be involved in the company’s Marking programmer and you would be managing export and local teams – Account Managers, etc. The Commercial Manager would have strong involvement in managing the pricing strategy, and communication of pricing with all customers (abroad and local), communication with growers and ensure that the software platform grows with the business and supports an efficient flow of information between packhouses, ports, and the market.  The Commercial Manager will manage existing customers as well as develop new business and develop and excellent customer relationships.

The Commercial Manager will have the following skills and experience:-

  • + Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Manager within the Fruit Export Environment
  • Excellent knowledge of Excel, i.e. able to do Pivot tables, V-lookup, etc.

Job Purpose:-

 To be responsible for growing a high yielding crop that meet the needs of retail supermarket  customer specifications including quality assurance, crop husbandry, achieving production targets  & goals in areas designated by Head of Growing. Managing and Monitoring the cycle  from plant delivery to harvest.

 

Main Responsibilities:-

  • Quality of plants – Ensure that all purchased plants meet our clients quality specification. Report any problems to the Head of Growing immediately.
  • Pre-planting & Planting – Ensure that tunnels and troughs are prepared in accordance with operational procedure as directed by the Head of Growing, including stock control of relevant materials. Oversea the planting operations and quality of all commercial crops
  • Crop Maintenance & Husbandry – Plan and deliver against the annual husbandry tasks and labour requirements.  Implement irrigation, fertigation and plant protection products as required throughout the season and maintain records to enable future analysis and improvements. Ensure that spraying is in compliance with current legislation and agreed guidelines.
  • Yield information  & Crop Calendar – Providing accurate yield information, developing an annual crop calendar, husbandry manpower plan, carry out monthly stock takes of chemical and fertilizers; ensure that field maps are correct and up to date.
  • Crop monitoring – Ensure that crop and environmental systems are accurately controlled and monitored all the times. Arrange leaf, soil and water analysis to the matrix plan. Ensure bio controls are applied in time. Ensure pests and diseases are monitored and appropriate action is taken. Produce a crop prediction report on weekly basis. Ensure that all growing practices and procedures are compliant with Nurtures Choice, Assured Produce and any other auditing bodies.
  • Quality assurance & Communication  – Work closely with Technical Department. Ensure that any potential problems are reported to Head of Growing or in his absence the operations Director.

What we are looking for:-

  • Someone with at least 4-5 years in a similar role
  • Must have ‘hands on’ growing management experience
  • Must have Fresh Produce experience (current)
  • FACTS, BASIS, PRIVA, PA1, 2, 6a and b. preferable.
  • You would be commercial focused and understand how an effective and efficiently run growing operation can contribute to stronger overall business profitability.
  • You would be a strong communicator and be used to working with growing teams in a similar way
